This past weekend was amazing. Alexis flew in on Friday morn and we met up at JFK, grabbed a rental car (our cute Dodge Cobalt) and headed north, I think it was north. Anyways, we drove to New Haven, Connecticut, where we drove around for 15 min (its really small), checked out Yale Univ (pronounced y'all-eh) and than got back on the freeway. We made it to Warwick (not the mythical dragon but the city) in Rhode Island in about 3 hours. We checked into our hotel, the awesome Best Western, and headed over to Providence. Our first stop was Federal Hill aka Little Italy for lunch. I had lobster ravioli and a salad and it was so good. And, of course we had desert, I ordered the coffee gilatto and Alexis ordered some sort of nutella, fruit crepe that we appropriately titled 'the nutella burrito'. Awesomeness. After that we decided to take a drive over to Newport Beach, RI, just a few miles away. This is now one of my favorite places in the world. The beach is beautiful, the town is adorable and the people there are super nice, well, as long as your not rooting against the Red Sox, like I was during the Yankee game. We caught a beer at a local pub and headed home early.
Saturday was suppose to be really nice so we got up, grabbed some breakfast at a local diner and headed back to Newport to sunbathe. When we got to the beach it was 55* and covered in a thick layer of fog. So it was back to town. We found a cute cafe on one of the piers and ate (crab cakes, yummy) and drank and laughed for the next few hours. Exactly the kind of vacation i was looking for. Eventually we roamed around a little, bought matching sweatshirts and headed back to out room.

Sunday morning we headed back into Providence after checking out of the hotel and grabbed some brunch at this very cute hipster cafe (crab eggs benedict-do you see a pattern here?), where we people watched and wandered around a bit before getting back in the car to drive back to the chaos of the city. We made a pit stop at Misquamicut Beach, RI. Which is this quaint, hidden beach a few miles off the main road.

All in all, it was exactly the kind of weekend I wanted and am so happy Alexis came out to celebrate my big bad birthday. I think we definitely acted our age, if you add them together and than divide by like 6. :)
