The Met has a great fashion exhibit going on through Aug 15th.

I was lucky enough to check it out a few weeks ago. It is supported by Gap and Conde nast, curated by Andrew Bolton and wig design done by Julien D'ys. (The wig's are exceptionally incredible!) The entire exhibition is like a walk through time and the setting as well as the wigs really make the clothes stand out. One of the theme's from the beginning that is depicted is that of the American Diana (slender athletic shape) vs the French Venus (voluptuous and curvy).
The exhibit is set up in 6 sections:The Heiress Fashion (French Coutures), The Gibson Gil (Sportie: with lots of Wool Suiting), The Bohemian (Corsets are gone, lots of drop waist silhouettes and gypsy looks), The Patriot/Suffragist (being in fashion was an act of feminism therefore a symbol of protest), The Flappers of the 1920s (lots of skyscraper like references), and The Screen Siren (very curvy and sexy).
Photo's aren't allowed so here are a few links and images from the Met's website.
